Years flow endlessly
A passenger one minute
Down under the next.
Tunde flipped open his diary as his eyes scanned through what he had planned for the day and the next. It was the first of December. ‘Where has 2019 gone?’ He shook his head in disbelief as he reflected on what he had done so far this year.
This time last year, he had dreams. Dreams to expand his business internationally. To become more active and to spend more time with his family.
His left hand rubbed the beard on his shiny chubby face thoughtfully. His goals and aspirations remained the same. His business was no better than last year, nor worse. His wife and kids still complained they needed to see more of him and the weighing scale this morning showed he weighed 2kg more than he weighed last December. Which did not surprise him because he ate erratically due to the pressures of his job and was never able to make time for any exercise.
Tunde didn’t despair about his unmet targets this year unlike in previous years. Instead, he was grateful to be alive as he remembered the close shave he had with death in a head on collision four months ago. His business partner who was driving at the time, now laid 6 feet under. A miracle!, the doctors called him.
He still suffers from survivor guilt and post traumatic stress disorder but, he was getting better every day. ‘I’m lucky. I get another chance.’ He thought as he set his diary down on the oak table, letting his feelings of gratitude engulf him.
Remember, if you are alive, you have another opportunity to get it right, to be the person you want to be. Life is a gift. Live in the moment. Be grateful. Be happy. Seize any opportunity you get. Time waits for none.
